At the Melaka Energy Park, operated by Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB), a PETRONAS subsidiary, the shift towards sustainable mobility has taken a new milestone with the deployment of six new electric vans, supported by on-site charging facilities to improve staff transportation across the site.
This move goes beyond convenience. By replacing conventional vehicles, the fleet is expected to contribute to an estimated annual carbon savings of up to 168 tCO₂, roughly equivalent to taking 36 conventional vehicles off the road.
Beyond decarbonisation benefits, the initiative also highlights how electric vehicles (EVs) can boost operational efficiency within large industrial complexes and facilities.
Advancing Malaysia’s net zero ambitions
The initiative not only supports PETRONAS’ Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 aspiration but also Malaysia’s broader clean energy agenda.
Under the National Energy Transition Roadmap and Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021–2030, Malaysia is targeting 15% of industry sales from EVs and hybrids by 2030, alongside the installation of 10,000 public charging points by 2025.
Gentari is helping to accelerate this transition by building the foundations of Malaysia’s EV ecosystem. To date, more than 260 EVs, including vans, cars and two-wheelers, have been rolled out supported by over 90 chargers nationwide.
Through partnerships with various like-minded partners such as Lazada, the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and KPJ Healthcare, Gentari is helping to broaden EV adoption across commerce, security, healthcare and regional developments, aligning business needs with the nation’s sustainability goals.
Together, these efforts are more than individual deployments. They represent a growing ecosystem of vehicles, chargers and partnerships that is accelerating Malaysia’s mobility transition at scale.
Gentari’s role in Malaysia’s EV transition
The EV transition is not just about introducing electric vehicles. For Gentari, it is about shaping the systems that make EV adoption possible at scale. Its efforts include expanding charging infrastructure in strategic locations nationwide, developing integrated mobility solutions that connect vehicles, chargers and digital platforms and enabling organisations to adopt EVs where they can make the greatest impact.
By proving that EVs can work reliably in real-world conditions, whether in logistics, healthcare, city centres or regional developments, Gentari is laying the groundwork for a nationwide EV ecosystem that will support Malaysia’s long-term decarbonisation goals.
Why it matters
While large-scale energy projects often capture attention, progress is equally defined by the practical, everyday steps taken. A clear example is the growing adoption of EVs, which is now expanding beyond highways and cities. Charging infrastructure is being introduced at industrial plants such as the Melaka Energy Park, MLNG Bintulu, the Pengerang Integrated Complex and many other key industrial hubs. These initiatives demonstrate how clean mobility can be embedded into daily operations while contributing to Malaysia’s wider net-zero aspirations. With each deployment, Gentari and its partners are helping Malaysia move closer to a future where cleaner, more sustainable mobility is not just an aspiration, but an everyday reality in cities, industrial parks and communities alike.
