KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – 25 August 2025 – Clean energy solutions provider Gentari through Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, and Gamuda through Gamuda Energy Sdn Bhd, have entered into a collaboration to develop approximately 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity through solar photovoltaic power plants paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Established under the national Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) framework, the new capacity is intended to meet the energy demands of strategic hyperscale data centre (DC) players.
This partnership brings together Gentari’s expertise in large-scale renewable energy development and operations with Gamuda’s proven regional track record in engineering, construction, and delivery of complex infrastructure projects, including renewable energy. Together, these complementary strengths will help advance Malaysia’s renewable energy transition while reinforcing the nation’s role as a regional digital economy hub.
As critical facilities for cloud computing, AI, and digital services, hyperscale DCs are projected to require over 5 GW of reliable power by 2035. This underscores the urgent need to expand renewable energy capacity to meet rising demand – a need both parties are committed to addressing.
“Malaysia’s digital economy is growing rapidly, bringing with it rising demand for reliable and sustainable power. Expanding renewable energy capacity is not only critical for meeting this demand but also key to driving long-term growth. At Gentari, we are committed to working with partners like Gamuda to deliver practical, scalable clean energy projects that advance the nation’s net-zero ambitions and contribute to the global energy transition,” commented Low Kian Min, Chief Renewables Officer of Gentari. Currently, Gentari has more than 8 GW of installed and under construction renewable energy capacity across its operating markets.
Joshua Kong Sing Hoe, Director of Gamuda Energy added, “Availability of clean energy is a critical factor for attracting FDI and retaining investments from the world’s leading technology companies in Malaysia. Gamuda is proud to partner Gentari at the forefront of efforts to enable this. With our combined strengths and bankability, we can support our data centre partner with a dedicated, sustainable and scalable pipeline of renewable energy to ensure these crucial DC facilities can operate at a reduced carbon footprint. This landmark partnership sets the model for future collaborations aimed at powering sustainable development across various industries in supporting the national net-zero ambition.”
